Comments on the geologic information

  • THE SIMILARITY OF STRATA THROUGHOUT THE ISLAND PROVIDES REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THE WHOLE EVAPORATIVE SEQUENCE FORMED IN A CONTINUOUS SEDIMENTATION BASIN AND THAT IT WAS LATER FRAGMENTED BY TECTONIC EVENTS. THE MINERALIZATION AT REALMONTE IS GENERALLY VERY REGULAR AND SUB-HORIZONTAL. HOWEVER, MINERAL ZONES ARE STEEPER WITH- IN THE CONCESSIONS PRESENTLY HELD OR BEING MINED.

Comments on other economic factors

  • THE "CAMPOFRANCO POLE" ENCOMPASSES ALL SICILIAN POTASH MINING OPERATIONS WHICH DEPEND ON THE CAMPOFRANCO PLANT FOR CONVERSION OF THEIR ORE TO K2SO4. THESE ARE RECALMUTO, REALMONTE AND, IN THE FUTURE, MILENA. THE ORE PRODUCED AT THE ABOVE MINES IS FIRST SENT TO SAN CATALDO WHERE IT IS MIXED AND UPGRADED. THE UPGRADED ORE THEN GOES TO CAMPOFRANCO FOR FINAL PROCESSING. HOWEVER, DUE TO DEPLETED RESERVES AT RACALMUTO AND THE FACT THAT THE CAMPOFRANCO PLANT CAN ONLY PROCESS ORE FROM TWO OPERATIONS, IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT RACALMUTO BE CLOSED DOWN AND MILENA STARTED UP. FOR THIS REASON THE CONCENTRATOR SET FOR RACALMUTO WILL APPEAR TO BE DIFFERENT FROM REALMONTE AND MILENA. THE DIFFERENCE IS AS FOLLOWS: THE RACALMUTO K-SET REFLECTS THE PROCESS PRIOR TO OPENING MILENA, AND THE REALMONTE AND MILENA K-SETS DEPICT THE FLOW AFTER THE OPENING OF THE NEW CAMPOFRANCO PLANT. CALCULATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: INPUT IS 1058.MT/DAY FROM REALMONTE @ 13% K2O. 3917 MT/DAY FROM MILENA @ 11.5% K2O. OR 4975 MT/DAY @ 11.82% K2O. 21.3% OF THE FEED COMES FROM REALMONTE AND 78.7% COMES FROM MILENA. PRODUCT OUT- PUT FOR REALMONTES "PORTION" IS 257 MT CONC./DAY.
