  • SURFACE MINING BEGAN IN 1727. UNDERGROUND MINING BEGAN IN 1853 AND CONTINUES TO THE PRESENT. BARITE PRODUCTION ENDED IN 1977. CONCENTRATOR WAS BUILT ON SITE IN 1963 TO PRODUCE CONCENTRATES OF ZINC, LEAD, AND PYRITE. CONVERSION TO MECHANIZED MINING WAS STARTED IN 1972 AND COMPLETED IN 1979.
