Comments on the geologic information

  • NOTE, THAT THE TIME OF MINERALIZATION OCCURS LATER THAN THE TRIASSIC PERIOD AND SOMETIME BEFORE THE PRESENT. THE EXACT AGE OF MINERALIZATION IS NOT EXPLICITLY MENTIONED IN THE LITERATURE. THIS DEPOSITE IS LOCATED IN THE MATRA HILLS, WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 110 KILOMETERS NORTHEAST OF BUDAPEST. THE MINERALIZATION IS ASSOCIATED WITH A SUB-VOLCANIC ANDESITE INTRUSION WITHIN TRIASSIC LIMESTONES AND DOLOMITES. DIVERSIFIED ORE MINERALIZATION OCCURRED DURING AND AFTER THE PERIOD OF CONTACT METAMORPHISM. THE TYPE OF MINERALIZATION VARIES WITH THE DISTANCE FROM THE CONDUCTING CHANNEL, THE DEPTH, AND THE COMPOSITION OF THE ROCK. FOUR MAJOR CATEGORIES OF ORE CAN BE DISTINGUISHED: PROPHYRY COPPER AND MOLYBDENITE ORES; CONTACT-METASOMATIC SKARN ORES; HYDROTHERMAL, METASOMATIC POLYMETALLIC ORES; AND NOBLE METALLIFEROUS COPPER ORES. THE INTRUSION IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE REGION CONTAINS PROPHYRY COPPER ORE, AND THE ORE MINERALS HERE ARE CHALCOPYRITE, PYRITE, MOLYBDENITE, AND SPHALERITE. SKARN COPPER AND COPPER-ZINC ORES OCCUR IN RICH ORE LENSES IN THE CONTACT ZONE BETWEEN THE INTRUSION AND THE SURROUNDING CARBONATE ROCKS. THE ORE MINERALS ARE CHALCOPYRITE, PYRITE, PYRRHOTITE, MAGNETITE, TENNANTITE, BORNITE, SPHALERITE, GALENA, AND MOLYBDENITE. IN THE SURROUNDING METAMORPHIC ROCKS, POLYMETALLIC SKARN ORES DEVELOPED, AND FURTHER AWAY IN THE SEDIMENTARY ROCKS, SMALL POCKETS OF RICH ORE DEVELOPED. THE ORE MINERALS HERE ARE CHALCOPYRITE, SPHALERITE, GALENA, PYRITE, AND TENNANTITE.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • THE OREBODY WAS DISCOVERED THROUGH SURFACE DRILLING IN THE LATE SIXTIES, AND NO PRODUCTION HAS YET TAKEN PLACE. HOWEVER, COPPER AND GOLD ORE HAD BEEN MINED FROM A NEARBY SURFACE DEPOSIT SINCE 1926, UNTIL THE RESOURCE WAS DEPLETED IN THE SEVENTIES. THREE TYPES OF COPPER ORE RESERVES HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO EXIST AT THIS MINE LOCATION AND THEY ARE: PROPHYRY AND SKARN COPPER ORE, AND POLYMETALLIC ORE. AT A CUT-OFF GRADE OF .6 PERCENT COPPER, RESERVES OF COPPER ORE ARE: PORPHYRY COPPER ORE OF 105 MILLION TONS AT .97 PERCENT COPPER, SKARN COPPER ORE OF 67 MILLION TONS AT 1.62 PERCENT COPPER, OR A TOTAL COPPER ORE RESERVE OF 172 MILLION TONS AT 1.22 PERCENT COPPER. AT A CUT-OFF GRADE EQUIVALENT TO 1.6 PERCENT LEAD, RESERVES OF POLYMETALLIC ORE ARE 20.5 MILLION TONS GRADING 5.4 PERCENT ZINC, 2.6 PERCENT LEAD, .46 PERCENT COPPER, AND 24.7 GRAMS PER TON OF SILVER. THE GOLD AND SILVER VALUES ARE FOUND IN THE COPPER ORES, AND MOLYBDENUM OCCURS IN THE PORPHYRY ORE. WITH THE USE OF HIGHER CUT-OFF GRADES, IT IS POSSIBLE TO DISTINGUISH 25 MILLION TONS OF COPPER ORE GRADING 2.3 PERCENT COPPER AND 4.2 MILLION TONS OF POLYMETALLIC ORE GRADING 7.2 PERCENT ZINC.

Comments on other economic factors

  • THE INVESTMENT ALREADY PUT INTO THE MINABLE DEPOSIT HAS BEEN VALUED AT 120 TO 140 MILLION DOLLARS, AND THE CAPITAL THAT WOULD BE NECESSARY TO BRING THE MINE INTO PRODUCTION HAS BEEN ESTIMATED TO BE APPROXIMATELY 100 MILLION DOLLARS.
