Comments on the production information

  • HEAVY SANDS ARE EXPOSED AT THE SURFACE IN SOME PLACES, AND WERE ENCOUNTERED IN A WATER WELL, DRILLED IN 1968. MR. J.R. ADAMSON, A LOCAL FARMER, STAKED THE MAIN DEPOSIT IN SEPTEMBER 1970 AND, TOGETHER WITH OTHER FARMERS, STAKED NEARLY ALL OF THE EXISTING DEPOSIT.
  • AT FULL CAPACITY WITH ALL THREE MINES IN PRODUCTION, ANNUAL PRODUCTION IS 600,000 MT ILMENITE, 120,000 MT RUTILE, AND 300,000 MT ZIRCON. RGC HAS A LONG TERM CONTRACT FOR ILMENITE WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR 20% OF ANNUAL PRODUCTION. CONTRACT EXPIRES IN 1998.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • ESTIMATES PUBLISHED IN 1981 INDICATE TOTAL HEAVY MINERAL RESERVES OF 10,000,000 TONS; ADEQUATE FOR A 20 YEAR LIFE. STATED RESOURCE FOR ENEABBA WEST WAS 230 MILLION MT AT 3.1% HEAVY MINERAL CARRYING ABOUT 47% ILMENITE, 15% ZIRCON, AND 9% RUTILE IN 1990. *1990 RESOURCE VALUES AS OF 1/7/90, PROVIDED BY RGC. INCLUDES RGC & ALLIED LEASES, JENNINGS G ZONE, AND ENEABBA WEST. *LINE 1: ILMENITE GRADE (4.55% HMC* 43.48% ILMENITE) *LINE 2: RUTILE GRADE (4.55% HMC* 7.93% RUTILE) *LINE 3: ZIRCON GRADE (4.55% HMC* 19.13% ZIRCON) *LINE 4: MONAZITE GRADE (4.55% HMC * 0.97% MONAZITE)

Comments on the workings information

  • IN 1993, RGC WAS IN THE PROCESS OF INTRODUCING A TECHNOLOGY TO REDUCE THE RADIOACTIVE THORIUM AND URANIUM LEVELS IN THE ILMENITE.

Comments on other economic factors

  • PRODUCTS ARE SHIPPED FROM THE GERALDTON PORT TO MARKETS IN NORTH AMERICA, JAPAN, AND EUROPE. THE MAJORITY OF THE SYNTHETIC RUTILE PRODUCTION IS SHIPPED TO NORTH AMERICA.
  • RECORD 1 REFERS TO NORTH DEPOSIT, RECORD 2 TO SOUTH, AND RECORD 3 TO WEST. *ENEABBA SOUTH OPERATION WAS CONVERTED FROM A DRY MINING OPERATION TO A DREDGE OPERATION IN 1989.
  • IN 1989-1990 APPROXIMATELY A$115 MILLION WAS SPENT ON THE ENEABBA WEST OPERATION (A$70 ON DRY PLANT EXPANSION, A$55 ON DEVELOPMENT OF DEPOSIT). *IN 1990, A$84 MILLION WAS SPENT ON EXPANDING THE SR PLANT. * IN 1993, AN A$2.5 MILLION SHIP LOADING FACILITY WAS BUILT.
