  • LOCATED HALFWAY BETWEEN CAPE TOWN AND THE ORANGE RIVER, 80 KM NE OF VANRHYMSDORP. PAST PRODUCER -ESTIMATE REMAINING RESERVE OF 30,000 TO 50,000 MT HEAVY MINERALS CONTAINING 20,000 MT OF MONAZITE CONC.(1,100 MT TH). IRREGULAR, SUB-VERTICAL LODE DEVELOPED IN SHEAR ZONE IN GRANITE GNEISSES. OUTCROP IS 300 MX UP TO 4 M(AVG.1 M). FINE-GRAINED MONAZITE TO A DEPTH OF AT LEAST 150 M(3-6%). MONAZITE AVGS. 8% THORIA AND MORE THAN 40% RARE EARTH OXIDES. UP TO END OF 1965 (CLOSE OF OPERATIONS) 57,000 TONS OF MONAZITE CONCS.PRODUCED(CAPACITY WAS 9,000 TONS CONCS./YR)
