Deposit SUPPLY OF MAGNETITE LIMITED BECAUSE ANNUAL REPLENISHMENT OF MAGNETITE IS TOO SMALL TO FILL EXTRACTIONS BY MINING. PRODUCTION: 1922 84MT 1957-1961 40,681MT, 1974 33,000MT MAG. DISTRIBUTION: COAST TO NORTH OF THE TATUN VOLC. GP. BETWEEN AND WANLI. PLACER MINERALS ORIGINATE FROM AGGLOMERATES IN TH VOLCANOES. CONSIDERABLE WEATHERING RELEASED MAGNETITE OF AND ROCKS. STREAMS BROUGHT SEDIMENT DOWN TO COAST WHERE WAVES & CURRENTS CONCENTRATE IT INTO WORKABLE PLACER DEPOSITS. COMPOSITION: MAGNETITE 70-85% AND TITANUM APPX. .88-3.95% OF HEAVY SANDS. THE HEAVY SAND IS CONCENTRATED INTO DARK, NARRO HORIZONS GENERALLY OF 0.1-1.0M THICK, 20-50M WIDE AND SEVERA HUNDRED METERS LONG. RESERVES: VARIOUS ESTIMATES REPORTED. O JAPANESE MINING CO ESTIMATED A TOTAL OF 200,000MT. IN 1956 T ESTIMATED 35,000MT OF SAND. RECENT ESTIMATES BY LOCAL MINERS RESERVES OF 123,170MT SAND ON THE NORTHERN COAST.
