Comments on the geologic information

  • THERE ARE TWO MAJOR TYPES OF IRON ORE, BEDROCK HEMATITE ORE CONTAINING FROM 66 TO 69 PERCENT IRON, AND SURFICIAL ORE CONTAINING 40 TO 68 PERCENT IRON. THE HIGH-GRADE HEMATITE ORE OCCURS AS REPLACEMENT BODIES IN FORMATION OF THE ITABIRA GROUP - DOMINANTLY IN THE CAUE ITABIRITE BUT TO SOME EXTENT IN THE GANDARELA FROMATION. THE SURFICIAL ORE IS DERIVED MOST COMMONLY FROM THESE FORMATIONS BY WEATHERING. THE HIGH-GRADE BEDROCK HEMATITE ORES RANGE FROM HARD, DENSE, AND FINE GRAINED TO FINE GRAINED TO FINE, SOFT AND POWDERY. MOST ORE BODIES EXHIBIT BORH TEXTURES. THE ORE BODIES GENERALLY ARE 95 PERCENT HEMATITE. MINOR AMOUNTS OF MAGNETITE, QUARTZ, TALC, PYROPHYLLITE, PHOSPHORUS BEARING MINERALS, AND ARGILLACEOUS MATERIAL MAY BE PRESENT. THE ORE WAS FORMED DURING THE MATAMORPHIC CYCLE, AFTER FOLDING. THIS ORE BODY IS LOCATED WITHIN AN ANTICLINAL STRUCTURE.
