Comments on the geologic information

  • SRI LANKAN GRAPHITE DEPOSITS ARE UNIQUE IN THAT THEY CONSIST OF STEEPLY DIPPING VEINS OF REMARKABLY HIGH-GRADE GRAPHITE. GRADES VARY FROM 92 TO 95 PERCENT CARBON. COUNTRY ROCKS INCLUDE QUARTZITE, LIMESTONE, DOLOMITE, SCHIST, GRANULITE, GNEISS, AND CHARNOCKITE. THE NUMBER OF VEINS IN A DEPOSIT VARIES FROM 2 OR 3 UP TO OVER 100. THE GRAPHITE AT K-K, UNLIKE THE OTHER DEPOSITS, HAS A NEEDLE-LIKE HABIT. DOWN-DIP VEIN EXTENT VARIES FROM VEIN TO VEIN. THERE ARE 32 VEINS BEING EXPLOITED.
