Comments on other economic factors

  • 8-93: THE PARTNERS IN THE Y56BN LEAD/ZINC SMELTER AND REFINERY PROJECT HAVE PULLED THE PLUG ON ITS CONSTRUCTION SAYING THAT POOR ZINC PRICES AND THE RAPID APPRECIATION OF THE YEN HAVE MADE THE PROJECT UNECONOMIC. THE IMPERIAL SMELTING PROCESS PLANT WAS DUE TO COME ON STREAM IN LATE 1994 OR EARLY 1995 PRODUCING ABOUT 120,000 TPY ZINC AND 60,000 TPY LEAD FROM A VARIETY OF CONCENTRATES AND SCRAP.
