Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • DEPOSITS OF HIGH-GRADE HEMATITE OCCUR IN THE PRECAMBRIAN IRON FORMATION. THE IRON FORMATION IS PART OF A THICK SEQUENCE OF FOLDED METASEDIMENTARY ROCKS SURROUNDED BY GRANITE. THERE ARE TWO MAJOR TYPES OF IRON ORE, BEDROCK HEMATITE ORE CONTAINING FROM 66 TO 69 PERCENT IRON. THE HIGH-GRADE HEMATITE ORE OCCURS AS REPLACEMENT BODIES IN FORMATIONS OF ITABIRA GROUP - DOMINANTLY IN THE CAUE ITABIRITE BUT TO SOME EXTENT IN THE GANDARELA FORMATION. THE SURFICIAL ORE IS DERIVED MOST COMMONLY FROM THESE FORMATIONS BY WEATHERING. THE HIGH-GRADE BEDROCK HEMATITE ORES RANGE FROM HARD, DENSE, AND FINE GRAINED TO FINE, SOFT, AND POWDERY. THE HIGH-GRADE BEDROCK HEMATITE ORE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN FORMED BY REPLACEMENT OF QUARTZ IN ITABIRITE BY HEMATITE LEACHED FROM THE SURROUNDING ITABIRITE.
