Deposit PEGMATITE EMPLACED IN BUGANDA SERIES ROCKS. TOTAL OF 2.8 TONS OF BISMUTOTANTALITE FROM 1943-1945. LI OCCURING AS AMBLYGONITE ASSOCIATED WITH BISMUTOTANTALITE AND MICROLITE. LITHIUM(AMBLYGONITE) FIRST RECOGNIZED IN 1930-PROSPECT HAD BEEN OPENED IN 1929 FOR BISMUTOTANTALITE (15 M SHAFT). LUMPS OF AMBLYGONITE UP TO 1 FOOT IN LENGTH HAD BEEN LEFT AROUND COLLAR. ABOUT 30-40 POUNDS OF AMBLYGONITE RECOVERED FROM DUMPS BUT NONE FOUND IN NEW PITS.PROPERTY NOT RE-VISITED UNTIL 1938. PROPERTY WORKED FOR BISMUTO- TANTALITE IN 1943 AND AMBLYGONITE STOCKPILED. BULK SAMPLE WAS TESTED IN 1945 AND FOUND TO CONTAIN 7.08 % LIO2 IN THE AMBLYGONITE. POOR QUALITY AND LACK OF GUARANTEED SUPPLY OF AMBLYGONITE MAKE PROSPECTS POOR. TANGAYIKA CONCESSIONS LTD. DID INITIAL TRENCHING AND SHAFT SINKING- 700 LB.BULK SAMPLE EXPORTED FOR TESTING. FROM LATE 1943 TO 1945 MINING BY NUMEROUS PITS 1-2 M DEEP (SOME AS DEEP AS 9.1 M) AT 23.9 M INTERVALS, AND PANNING THE DETRITUS(WATER HAD TO BE BROUGHT IN 4 KM BY ROAD). LOCATION UNKNOWN, GENERAL AREA IS IN MABIRA FOREST RESERVE 30-40 KM NW OF JINJA. CO-ORDINATES ARE OF NTUNDA, 24 KM N OF LUGAZI.
