Comments on the location information

  • Political location in record is Jefferson county. However, lat/long plots 1100 m inside adjacent Lewis and Clark county. The reference is unpublished and will be difficult to check. Original coordinates were: lat/long NAD27 46-29-35N 112-13-5W (46.4931 -112.2181); UTM N5149334 E406521 Z12N; PLSS line# 1: Meridian- Montana Principal, TWNSHP 009 N, RNG 004 W, Sect 34, Sect_fract <blank>. PLSS coordinates translate to 46.492 -112.093 (46 29 32N 112 05 35W). This is exactly one Range (9.6 km) east of the original lat/long which falls in T9N R5W Sect 34. Duplicate record 10167723 is identical in all fields except the county name which is Lewis and Clark, the correct county for the original lat/long. It is possible this is a corrected version of 10221600 because the old MAS id is higher (0300490668). Geonames finds Buffalo Gulch Jefferson county 40 km SW of the original lat/long, T5N R6W. Another Buffalo Gulch is located in N. Powell county, 30 km NW of the original lat/long. The original PLSS coordinates center on Buffalo Creek in Jefferson county. So the longitude was changed to agree with the PLSS coords and county name. Duplicate record 10167723 was deleted.
