Deposit THE LOCATION GIVEN ON RECORD 030 IS THE APPROXIMATE CENTER O BELLEFONTE-NITTANY VALLEY GROUP OF MINES. THE NAMES OF INDIV MINES ARE LISTED IN RECORDS 011-014. THESE MINES TREND NORTH SOUTH OF THE GIVEN LOCATION, ABOUT 1.5 MILES IN EACH DIRECTI ORE THAT WAS MINED IS DESCRIBED AS WASH AND LUMP HEMATITE, A ORES. THE NIGH BANK PROBABLY PRODUCED 125000 TONS, AND THE J BANK FROM 15000-18000 TONS. NO OTHER PRODUCTION FIGURES ARE AVAILABLE. THESE MINES WERE PROBABLY ACTIVE FROM THE MID-180 THE LATE 1800S. SURFACE MINING WAS PREDOMINANT, BUT NUMEROUS SHALLOW SHAFTS WERE ALSO SUNK.
