General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit THE PIPE SURFACE MINE SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH THE PIPE #1 OR PIPE #2 (UNDERGROUND) MINES. THE PIPE DEPOSIT HAS THREE MINE OPERATIONS : THE PIPE 1 MINE ,A SMALL OPERATION ON A SEPARATE DEPOSIT SHUT DOWN SINCE 1971; THE PIPE 2 MINE,WHICH REQUIRES EXTENSIVE DEVELOPEMENT PRIOR TO PRODUCTION; AND THE PIPE OPEN PIT MINE,WHICH IS CURRENTLY IN OPERATION THE RATE OF ORE PRODUCTION WAS CUT BACK IN DECEMBER 1971 WHEN THE NICKEL MARKET SITUATION BECAME UNFAVORABLE TO THE PRODUCERS.AS A RESULT, THE 6 YEAR PROJECTED LIFE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 13 YEARS TO 1983. THE PIPE OPEN PIT MINE WAS EXPOSED BY DREDGING AND PUMPING OF AN ESTIMATED 10 MILLION CUBIC METERS OF OVERBURDEN FROM THE SITE OF THE OPEN PIT TO EXPOSE AN AREA 610 BY 1128 METERS.
