Deposit ORE OCCURS IN 56 SEPARATE ORE BODIES COVERING AN AREA OF APPROZIMATELY 150 SQ KM. THERE ARE THREE ZONES: UPPER OXIDIZED CONTAINING MAINLY HEMATITE (+/- 25 M THICK), MIDDLE MIXED ZONE CONTAINING BOTH HEMATITE AND MAGNETITE (+/- 15 M THICK), AND A LOWER UNALTERED PRIMARY ZONE CONTAINING SOME PYRITE. THE RESOURCE PROPORTIONATELY CONTAINS ABOUT 7-8 PCT OXIDIZED ORE, 17-18 PCT MIXED ORE, AND 74-75 PCT PRIMARY ORE. THE ORE IS TRANSPORTED 15 KM BY CONVEYOR TO THE SAN NICHOLAN BENEFICATION PLANT. THE MAIN CONCENTRATION IS BY MAGNETIC METHOD (PRIMARY ORE) WITH A FINISH TREATMENT BY FLOTATION TO FLOAT OFF THE PYRITE. THE MIXED ORE IS GENERALLY CRUSHED TO ABOUT 5 MM (3/16 IN). THE UNDERSIZE IS CONCENTRATED BY JIGS AND SPIRALS, AND THE OVERSIZE IS TREATED THROUGH HEAVY MEDIA. ANNUAL PRODUCT CAPACITIES AMOUNT TO: SINTER FEED - 4,400 - 4,500 MT, PELLETS - 3,900 - 4,000 MT (ON SITE PELLET PLANT), AND PELLET FEED - 1,800 - 1,900 MT. AS OF 1985 THE SMALLER OLD PELLET PLANT WAS SHUT DOWN, REDUCING PELLET CAPACITY BY 60 PCT.
