Comments on the geologic information

  • THE BAUXITIZATION IS BELIEVED TO HAVE RESULTED FROM EXTREME LEACHING OF PRE-EXISTING ROCK MATERIAL BY DOWNWARD PERCOLATING METEORIC WATER.
  • THE PRIMARY GANGUE MATERIALS ARE THE SILICA AND IRON COMPON- ENTS FOUND IN THE CLAY AND LATERITES.
  • THE BAUXITE DEPOSITS ARE LOCATED ON THE TOPS OF PLATEAUS HAVING A RELIEF OF 70 TO 120 METERS WITH SIDE SLOPES OF ABOUT 30 DEGREES. THEY ARE FLAT-TOPPED WITH A DIP OF 1 TO 5 DEGREES SOUTH TOWARD THE AMAZON, AND ARE DISSECTED BY YOUNG STREAMS WHOSE COURSES ARE PARTIALLY CONTROLLED BY REGIONAL JOINTING.
