Deposit THE MAITLAND OPEN PIT WAS OPERATED FROM 1918-1928 BY THE VOL ORE CO. IN 1938 THE PALMER MINING CO. LEASED THIS PROPERTY A OPERATED IT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NEW VOLUNTEER MINE. SHIP FROM THESE TWO PROPERTIES TOTALED 5,595,659 TONS OF CRUSHED, GREY-RED, SILICEOUS ORE AS OF 1950.
