Deposit AREA WAS THE SITE OF THE VIVION MILL IN THE COMSTOCK DAYS OF MINING. GOLD EXTRACTION AT VIVION (LASTING 35-40 YEARS) WAS BY WASHING PULVERIZED ORE OVER MERCURY COVERED AMALGAMATION SHEETS. BEADS OF MERCURY TRAPPED ON TAILING DUMPED INTO CARSON RIVER NOW IS PLACER DEPOSIT WITH GOLD & SILVER.
Environmental Factors CERCLA (SUPERFUND) SITE. LISTED ON NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST (NPL) AUG. 1990. ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS INCLUDE HEAVY METALS. MILL CONTAMINATION-SEDIMENTS/TAILINGS ALONG 50-MILE RIVER STRETCH.
