  • ALUMINIO DEL CARONI S.A. (ALCASA) IS THE OPERATOR: EXPANSION HAS BEEN COMPLETED TO 220,000 MTPY, BUT ANY FURTHER EXPANSION IS IN DOUBT AT THIS TIME. JAPAN TO TAKE 120,000 MT IN EACH OF 1994 AND 1995. REMAINDER IS TARGETED FOR THE U.S. MARKET. THE GOVERNMENT PLANS TO SELL ITS 80 PERCENT SHARE IN VENALUM. SMELTER TO BE SOLD IN A BLOCK WITH VENALUM AND ALUMINA AND BAUXITE INTERESTS IN 1996.
