Comments on the geologic information

  • THE GEOLOGY OF THE MINE CONSISTS OF GREISEN-TYPE STOCKWORKS CONTAINING TIN AND TUNGSTEN MINERALS, WITH ACCOMPANYING MICA, TOPAZ, AND MINOR SULPHIDES. GRANITE STOCKS ARE SURROUNDED BY BARREN GNEISS. VERY OLD, SMALL SCALE MINING OPERATIONS HAD LEFT LOW GRADE REMNANTS OF ORE DOWN TO A DEPTH OF 150 METERS. THESE HAVE BEEN MINED BY OPEN-PIT METHODS. RESERVES AMENABLE TO OPEN-PIT MINING WERE EXHAUSTED IN 1987. SINCE 1980, A NEW UNDERGROUND MINE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED, WITH A MAIN WINDING SHAFT AND A VENTILATION SHAFT. ORE IS MINED BY SUB-LEVEL CAVING, TRAMMED TO ORE PASSES BY LHDS AND THEN DELIVERED TO THE MAIN SHAFT BY LOCOMOTIVES. OVERSIZE ORE IS CRUSHED UNDERGROUND. WATER INFLOW AVERAGES 4.75 CUBIC METERS PER MINUTE, BUT CAN REACH A MAXIMUM OF 11 CUBIC METERS PER MINUTE.

Comments on the production information

  • VERY OLD MINE WORKINGS EXIST DOWN TO A DEPTH OF 150 METERS. THE PRESENT MINE HAS BEEN RE-DEVELOPED SINCE 1980. NEW UNDERGROUND OPERATIONS CAME ON STREAM IN 1986. RESERVES FOR THE STANNUM MINE ARE 11,364 METRIC TONS OF PROVEN ORE AND 3,489 METRIC TONS OF INFERRED ORE. ORE-GRADE MINERALIZATION IS KNOWN TO EXIST AT OTHER LOCATIONS CLOSE TO THE PRESENT MINE WORKINGS. FOR MOBILE EQUIPMENT, THE STANNUM MINE HAS 6 PN 1500 AND PN 1700 LHDS, MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA; ONE ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC LHD; FOUR ATLAS COPCO SIMBA DRILL RIGS; TWO PVN 2A CZECH DRILL RIGS; AND RP-3 AND RP-4 RAISE CLIMBERS. AN UNDERGROUND CRUSHER REDUCES ORE TO 160 MILLIMETERS. ON THE SURFACE, A GYRATORY CRUSHER AND ROD MILL REDUCE ORE TO 15 MILLIMETERS. SPIRALS, REICHERT CONES AND DEISTER TABLES YIELD A FIRST CONCENTRATE. FINE MATERIAL IS CONCENTRATED BY SKO, WILFLEY AND HOLMAN TABLES. ALL CONCENTRATES ARE DE-SULPHURISED BY FLOTATION. A MAGNETIC SEPARATOR THEN REMOVES IRON AND WOLFRAMITE FROM THE CASSITERITE.
  • THE STANNUM MINE PRODUCES TIN CONCENTRATES AND TUNGSTEN CONCENTRATES WITH HEAD GRADES, FOR THE YEAR 1989, AT .192 PERCENT TIN AND .032 PERCENT TUNGSTEN. CONCENTRATE PRODUCTION IN 1989 WAS 503 METRIC TONS OF TIN CONCENTRATE AND 66 METRIC TONS OF TUNGSTEN CONCENTRATE. THE GRADES OF THE CONCENTRATES FOR THE YEAR OF 1989 ARE 50.64 PERCENT TIN IN TIN CONCENTRATE AND 41.75 PERCENT TUNGSTEN IN TUNGSTEN CONCENTRATE. THE RECOVERY RATES FOR TIN AND TUNGSTEN ARE 62.7 PERCENT AND 40.85, RESPECTIVELY. THE 1992 MINING ANNUAL REVIEW (MAR) ESTIMATED THAT THE TIN AND WOLFRAM ORE PRODUCTION FOR CZECHOSLOVAKIA, FOR THE YEAR 1991 WAS AT 360,000 METRIC TONS.
