Comments on other economic factors

  • "K1"REPRESENTS BOTH SAN CATALDO AND CAMPOFRANCO, WHICH ACCEPTS FEED FROM REALMONTE ALSO. THERFORE THE CAPACITY REPRESENTS THE TOTAL CAPACITY FROM BOTH MINES. EXACT LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE OF CAMPOFRANCO ARE NOT KNOWN.

Deposit RACALMUTO IS LOCATED IN THE"CAMPOFRANCO POLE", WHICH ENCOMPASSES ALL SICILIAN POTASH MINING OPERATIONS WHICH DE- PEND ON THE CAMPOFRANCO PLANT FOR CONVERSION OF THEIR ORE TO K2SO4. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT RACALMUTO CLOSE DOWN DUE TO THE EXISTENCE OF A NEGATIVE ECONOMIC MARGIN EVEN UNDER A PRO- JECTED PRODUCTION EXPANSION. ORE FROM RACALMUTO IS TRUCKED TO THE SAN CATALDO PLANT, WHERE IT IS UPGRADED BY FLOATATION. REALMONTE AND MILENA IN THE FUTURE, ALSO SEND THEIR ORE TO SAN CATALDO. AFTER THE CONCENTRATION PROCESS, ALL OF THE UPGRADED ORE IS BLENDED AND SENT, BY AERIAL CABLEWAY, TO THE CAMPOFRANCO PLANT. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE DEPLETED RESERVES AT RACALMUTO AND THE FACT THAT CAMPOFRANCO CAN ONLY HANDLE ORE FROM TWO MINES IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT RACALMUTO BE CLOSED DOWN AND MILENA BE PUT INTO PRODUCTION. FOR THIS REASON THE CONCENTRATOR SET FOR RACALMUTO WILL APPEAR TO BE DIFFERENT FROM REALMONTE AND MILENA. THE DIFFERENCE IS AS FOLLOWS: THE RACALMUTO K-SET REFLECTS THE PROCESS PRIOR TO OPENING MILENA, AND THE REAL- MONTE AND MILENA K-SETS DEPICT THE PROCESS AFTER THE OPENING OF THE NEW CAMPOFRANCO PLANT. CALCULATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: FIRST, REALMONTE AND MILENA ARE PRODUCERS AND MILENA IS A NON-PRODUCER. THEREFORE ORE FROM REALMONTE AND RACAL- MUTO GOES TO THE SAN CATALDO PLANT FOR UPGRADING. 1058 MT/DAY FROM REALMONTE @ 13% K2O 1038 MT/DAY FROM RACALMUTO @ 11.5% K2O GIVES AN EQUIVALENT OF 2096 MT/DAY @ 12.26% K2O. THIS THEN IS SAID TO BE THE FEED TO THE CAMPOFRANCO PLANT. THEREFORE THE PERCENT THAT COMES FROM RACALMUTO IS 1038/2096= 49.5% AND PRODUCT OUTPUT ON THE PRODUCT SHEET IS 211.94 MT.
