Deposit THE SILANGUIN CHROMITE DEPOSIT IS LOCATED 5 KILOMETERS WEST OF SUBIC BAY IN ZAMBALES PROVINCE, LUZON, PHILIPPINES. IT IS ABOUT 20 KILOMETERS SOUTH OF THE COASTAL TO WN OF SAN ANTONIO ON THE CHINA SEA, AND ABOUT 90 KILOMETERS WEST OF MANILA. ACCORDING TO GOLDER: GOLDEN ARROW MINING BEGAN DEVELOPMENT IN SPRING, 1976. TRENCHING AND A 300 BY 300 METER DRIL- LING GRID ESTABLISHED RESERVES OF 190,000 TONNES OF METALL. GRADE CR2O3. PRODUCTION BEGAN IN EARLY 1977. THE SILANGUIN MINE CLOSED IN JANUARY 1980 AND THE MILL WAS MOVED ACROSS THE BAY TO THE BACUNGAN PROPERTY ON PALAWAN ISLAND. RESERVE ESSENTIALLY EXHAUSTED AND PROPERTY NOT ANALYZED IN 1981 STUDY. THE SILANGUIN MINE IS NOW BEING PREPARED FOR THE FINAL STAGE IN MINING AND IS EXPECTED TO CLOSE BEFORE 1982 UNLESS SUBSTANTIAL RESERVES ARE FOUND AND THE MARKET PRICE FOR THE CHROMITE IMPROVES. THE TRANSFER OF PLANT AND EQUIPMENT FROM THE MINE IS PLANNED TO TAKE 8 MONTHS. IT IS NOT KNOWN WHEN THE MOVE WILL TAKE PLACE. 9 DIAMOND DRILL HOLES TOTALLING 813 METERS SUNK AT THE MINE TO FURTHER DEFINE ORE GRADE. MINING WAS BY OPEN PIT. PRODUCTION WAS 300 METRIC TONS ORE/DAY. THE ORE WAS CRUSHED AND UPGRADED AT ONSITE MILL. MILL OUTPUT WAS ABOUT 56 METRIC TONS CHROMITE CONCENTRATE/ DAY.
