Deposit ESTIMATED LOCATION IS JUST NORTH OF ROAD GOING EAST FROM KITAGATA,63 KM WSW OF MBARARA. 700 M LONG AND 100 M WIDE PEGMATITE(LARGEST PEGMATITE KNOWN IN SOUTHWEST UGANDA). FELDSPARS EXTENSIVELY KAOLINIZED. LITHIAN MUSCOVITE-ALBITE REPLACED PEGMATITE ( MUSCOVITE CONTAINING 1 TO 2.2% LI2O RATHER THAN TRUE LEPIDOLITE). AS OF 1969, 400 TONS OF BERYL HAD BEEN PRODUCED FROM THE MUTAKA PEGMATITE. SOME COLUMBITE AND CASSITERITE ALSO PRESENT. RESERVES (AT INDICATED AND INFERRED LEVELS) ESTIMATED AS RESULT OF 1958-1961 UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY STUDY WERE 4,000,000 TONS AT 0.022 % BEO (0.008 % BE). MUTAKA OPERATION ALSO PRODUCES KAOLIN, PERTHITE AND LUMP QUARTZ.
