Comments on the production information

  • THE CONCENTRATOR WAS COMMISSIONED IN 1943 AND WAS MODERNISED IN 1985. TWO STAGE CRUSHING AND SCREENING IS FOLLOWED BY PRIMARY GRINDING IN ROD MILLS. SECONDARY GRINDING IS DONE BY BALL MILLS. THE TAILS FROM THE COPPER SCAVENGERS FEED A ROUGHER MAGNETIC SEPARATOR. THE MAGNETIC IRON CONCENTRATE PASSES THROUGH TWO FURTHER CLEANING MAGNETS BEFORE DEWATERING. TAILINGS ARE PUMPED TO A DAM 1.5 KILOMETERS FROM THE CONCENTRATOR. THE RECLAMATION AND CULTIVATION OF LAND OCCUPIED BY THE TAILINGS DAM IS DESIRABLE. IN 1990 THE COST OF MILLING ONE METRIC TON OF ORE WAS R14.07.

Comments on other economic factors

  • IN 1991, ALL ORE WAS SUPPLIED BY THE TURJIN MINE WHICH IS 1.5 KILOMETERS FROM THE CONCENTRATOR. ALL COPPER CONCENTRATE GOES TO THE KRASNOURALSK COPPER SMELTER, AND ALL IRON CONCENTRATE IS TREATED AT THE SEROVSK METALLURGICAL ENTERPRISE.
