Comments on the reserve resource information

  • THE PLANT WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1973. THE YEAR OF INITIAL PRODUCTION WAS ESTIMATED. THE PLANT WAS REPORTED DAMAGED IN 1992 BY POLITICAL UNREST. THE PLANT IS POWERED BY THE CROATIAN GRID AND CONSUMES 11 PERCENT OF CROATIAN ELECTRICAL GENERATING CAPACITY. THE PLANT WAS IDENTIFIED AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM.

Comments on the workings information

  • ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY IS POOR.

Comments on other economic factors

  • APPROXIMATELY 100,000 TONS PER YEAR OF ALUMINA IS IMPORTED FROM GREECE AND SARDENIA, AND ABOUT 15,000 METRIC TONS PER YEAR IS IMPORTED FROM GUINEA. FROM 1990 TO 1994, A CONTRACT WAS SIGNED TO PURCHASE ALUMINA FROM BILLITON. ABOUT 50,000 METRIC TONS PER YEAR IS RECEIVED FROM ALUMINIJ MOSTAR (ENERGOINVEST).
  • THE PLANT HAS 208 POTS IN ONE POTLINE IN TWO POT ROOMS. ANODES ARE PURCHASED FROM ALUCENTRO, PORTO MARGHERA, ITALY, AND ALUSUISSE. AN EXPANSION PROGRAM TO EXPAND TO 95,000 TONS PER YEAR WAS ANNOUNCED IN 1989, BUT WITH CIVIL UNREST, IT IS UNLIKELY THAT IT OCCURED.
  • ALUMINUM IS PROCESSED IN FACTORIES AT SIBENIK. FORTY PERCENT OF PRODUCTION IS FOR THE DOMESTIC MARKET. FORTY-FIVE PERCENT IS EXPORTED TO OTHER EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, AND 15 PERCENT IS EXPORTED TO WESTERN MARKETS, PRINCIPALLY EUROPE.
