  • MOST EXPLORATION TOOK PLACE PRIOR TO 1965. MINE CLEANUP WAS MINOR WHILE MILL CONSTRUCTION OCCURRED FROM MAY 1965 TO JUNE 1967. A MAJOR EXPANSION TOOK PLACE FROM 1974 TO 1977 THAT INCREASED CAPACITY FROM 2.6 TO 5.8 MILLION METRIC TONS OF PELLETS PER YEAR. IN 1980 PHASE I AT THE PELLET PLANT WAS SHUT DOWN. PRESENT (1991) PLANT CAPACITY IS 4775000 METRIC TONS PELLETS/YEAR.
