RECORD 020/ STANDARD MN OWNS 5 ACRES & LEASES 7000 FROM 15 F REC 030 LOCATION OF EAST PENNINGTON PIT REC 040 DEPOSIT ABOUT 4 MI FROM TYRONE. MAX SURFACE. AREA DISTURBED WAS ROUGHLY MEASURED OFF A MINE AREA MAP AND 7.5 MIN TOPO. A CLUDES EAST AND WEST PENNINGTON BANKS AND THE LAND BETWEEN ( 900 FT) RECORD 050/ 2000 TONS OF MANGANESE WERE PRODUCED IN 4 WEEKS 1952. PAST PRODUCTION OF KAOLIN AND IRON ORE IS UNKNOWN. DEPOSIT DISCOVERED AND WORKED FOR FE ORE PRIOR TO 1857 (METH 1-4 PENN. OPERATED IN 1857 AND DATA SINCE THEN FOR BOTH PROPERTIES BUREAU OF MINES EXAMINED THE DEPOSIT IN 1952 AND DRILLED IN REC 070 COBALT ADSORBED ON CRYPTOMELANE. SEVERAL ASSAYS SHOW 40%, & 52% MN, AND 0.59%, 0.79%, & 1.30% CO. COBALT CONTENT TO INCREASE WITH DEPTH. RECORD 080/ COBALT BEARING MANGANESE AND MANGANIFEROUS IRON OCCUR AS NODULES OR MASSIVE ORE IN THE RESIDUAL CLAY OF THE GATESBURG DOLOMITE. THE MINERALS WERE DEPOSITED BY GROUND W AND REPLACE THE CLAY REC 704 DESCRIBES THE IRON DEPOSIT. BUT MN IS APPARENTLY ASSOCIATED WITH SELECTIVE PARTS OF THE PENNINGTON ORE RANGE WHICH OUTCROP A LINE 2 MI FROM THE JUNIATA R. TO THE OLD RAILROAD. THE NW PENNINGTON RIDGE IS COVERED WITH WASH ORE BELOW WHICH LIE BE MASSES OF ROCK ORE BETWEEN RIBS OF SILICEOUS LS. AND INTERCA SHEETS OF WHITE CLAY. ORE BEARING SS MARKS THE LOWER LIMIT O ORE ZONE WHICH GENERALLY STRIKES NE AND DIPS NW. AT THE E. P AN 8-16 FT FLOOR OF ROCK ORE UNDERLIES 50FT OF WASH&LUMP OR CALATED BETWEEN WHITE SANDY CLAY. W PENN. SHOWS 5-10 FT OF S SOIL WITH SOME ORE, 50-80 FT WASH ORE INTERSTATIFIED WITH WH BROWN AND RED CLAY, AND SAND, AND A FLOOR OF RED ROCK ORE. A IN MAIN CUT OF E. PENN. STRUCK A 5 FT LAYER OF FERROMN ORE A REC 700 ESTIMATES 900 LBS OF LUMP MN OX. AND MANGANIFERROUS IN CLAY IN A PROSPECT PIT 50X40X20 FT (DEP. DIM. DATA). A 20 SPEIGELEISEN/HOUR BLAST FURNACE IS ON THE PROPERTY
