Identification information

Deposit ID 10303683
MAS/MILS ID 0560250254
Record type Site
Current site name Pratt Sodium Mine

Comments on the site identification

  • Another original MAS record 0560250388 (newMRDS #10157384) was listed as being at N-42-54-30 NAD27(42.9083 WGS 84), W-106-11-58 NAD27 (-106.1994 WGS84), and in T34N, R78W. But this is 60 km to the east on the east side of Casper. Perhaps coincidence, it was about 7.5 km SSW from Pratts Soda Lakes. There was no verifible source in that record other than "WYO GEOL SURV OPEN FILES". Recommended that record be deleted. Even if it is a valid record the information is unusable without verification.

Comments on the production information

  • "William E. Pratt of Casper produced 1,329 tons of sodium sulfate from saline deposits in the region around natrona in 1963" (Osterwald, 1966, p. 161). However, this could apply to the other Pratt record which is currently plotting east of Casper but as there are no published references, that location can not be verified. It is possible that that record is mislocated and could potentially be a duplicate.
