| Deposit | THE VEENDAM DEAD BURNED MAGNESIA PRODUCTION FACILITY, AKA BILLITON, EMPLOYS A PATENTED SOLUTION MINING METHOD TO CONTROL CAVERN SHAPE/SIZE BY USING OIL TO PROTECT THE CAVERN ROOF FROM DISOLUTION WITHIN BEDS OF MIXED HALITE, CARNALITE, AND BISCHOFITE. THE RESULTING BRINE IS DESULFATED TO REMOVE GYPSUM, PRODUCING AN MGCL2 SOLUTION WHICH IS THEN TREATED WITH CALCINED DOLOMITE FROM BELGIUM, TO PRODUCE MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE. THIS IS THEN CALCINED TO PRODUCE A CAUSTIC CALCINED PRODUCT WICH IS THEN PELLETIZED AND DEAD BURNED TO PRODUCE THE FINAL PRODUCT. THE RESULTING CAVERNS ARE BACK FILLED WITH WASTE SALTS TO MINIMIZE SUBSIDENCE. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT RESERVES EXIST FOR 30 YEARS OF PRODUCTION AT THE CURRENT RATE OF 100,000 TPA MGO. |
