  • IN THE FALL OF 1991, THE COMPLEX HAD TO SHUT DOWN BECAUSE IT HAD RUN OUT OF FEEDSTOCK AND DID NOT HAVE HARD CURRENCY TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL MATERIAL. THE FACILITY WAS BACK IN PRODUCTION A FEW MONTHS LATER.

Deposit U.S. COMMERCE DEPT. PRELIMINARILY DETERMINED TO KEEP THE ANTI- DUMPING DEPOSITS ON TITANIUM SPONGE FROM KAZAKHSTAN UNCHANGED AT 83.96% IN FEB. 1994. THE PLANT IS HYDROELECTRIC. A SLAG SMELTING FACILITY WAS BEING CONSTRUCTED IN 1994, SO THAT THE FACILITY COULD UPGRADE ILMENITE TO A TITANIUM SLAG. CHORI CO., A JAPANESE TRADING FIRM, IS PROVIDING LOANS OF $3.2 MILLION TO TITANIUM MAGNESIUM KOMBINATE (TMK). THE MONEY WILL BE USED TO INSTALL A SLAG SMELTING FACILITY.
