Comments on the production information

  • LEAD CONCENTRATES ASSAY AT 68 PERCENT LEAD, 9.8 PERCENT ZINC, 4.4 PERCENT BASO4, 0.22 PERCENT MERCURY, AND 2,200 GRAMS PER METRIC TON OF SILVER. ZINC CONCENTRATES ASSAY AT 50 PERCENT ZINC, 3.3 PERCENT LEAD, 6.9 PERCENT BASO4, 0.4 PERCENT COPPER, 0.45 PERCENT MERCURY, AND 400 GRAMS PER TON OF SILVER. ONLY ZINC IS PAYABLE IN THE ZINC CONCENTRATE. MERCURY IS PENALIZED, SUCH AS $220,000.00 IN 1989. PYRITE CONCENTRATE IS BEING STOCKPILED, OWING TO ITS HIGH SILVER CONTENT OF 600 GRAMS PER METRIC TON OF PYRITE CONCENTRATE.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • THERE IS A 75 PERCENT CONFIDENCE THAT TOTAL RESERVES ARE APPROXIMATELY 22 MILLION METRIC TONS. THE GRADES OF THE RESERVES ARE 2.05 PERCENT FOR LEAD, 1.37 PERCENT FOR ZINC, AND 3.12 GRAMS PER METRIC TON FOR SILVER.
  • RESOURCE ESTIMATE IS BASED ON PROBABLE 35 YEAR MINE LIFE. OPERATION ALSO RECOVERS BARITE, COPPER, SILVER, AND MERCURY. SILVER GRADE OF 3.12 GRAMS PER METRIC TON IS BASED ON A 75 PERCENT MILL RECOVERY AND A 5 PERCENT GRADE DILUTION. FEED GRADES RANGE FROM 1.7 TO 2.2 PERCENT LEAD AND 1.2 TO 1.4 PERCENT ZINC.
  • A 5 PERCENT DILUTION FACTOR HAS BEEN FACTORED INTO THE ESTIMATE. C.R.U. STATES THAT THE VARES LEAD AND ZINC MINE HAS A PROBABLE LIFE OF 35 YEARS.

Comments on other economic factors

  • LEAD CONCENTRATE IS SHIPPED ABROAD FOR SMELTING. THERE ARE TWO SMELTERS USED AND THEY ARE THE HOBOKEN IN BELGIUM AND THE PROTO VESME IN SARDINIA. ABOUT 50 PERCENT OF THE LEAD CONCENTRATE GOES TO EACH OF THESE SMELTERS, BUT ALL OF THE ZINC CONCENTRATE GOES TO THE HOBOKEN SMELTER. BARITE IS EXPORTED TO THE CIS, CUBA, ROMANIA, AND OTHER MEDITERRANEAN COUNTRIES.
