Comments on the production information

  • THE CONCENTRATOR WAS COMMISSIONED IN 1931 AND MODERNISED IN 1981. TWO STAGES OF CRUSHING AND SCREENING ARE FOLLOWED BY TWO STAGES OF GRINDING IN BALL MILLS. COPPER ORES AND COPPER-ZINC ORES ARE TREATED SEPARATELY. TAILINGS ARE PUMPED TO A DAM 3 KILOMETERS FROM THE PLANT. THE RECLAMATION AND CULTIVATION OF LAND OCCUPIED BY THE TAILINGS DAM IS DESIRABLE. IN 1991, THE COST OF MILLING ONE TON OF ORE WAS R7.71. IT IS INTENDED THAT THE CONCENTRATOR TO BE MODIFIED TO ENABLE IT TO TREAT SMELTER SLAG.
