Deposit LOCATED IN VICINITY OF ROOSSENEKAL 103 KM NE OF WITBANK. MAPOCHS MINE OPENED JUNE 1968, THE IRON/STEEL/VANADIUM PLANT AT WITBANK OPENED APRIL 1969. DECISION TO PRODUCE WAS MADE IN 1964. IN 1976 PRODUCTION FROM WITBANK PLANT WAS 500,000 MT OF FINISHED STEEL AND 10,500 MT OF VANADIUM PRODUCTS.-PLANT EMPLOYED 1,300 WHITES AND 1,700 BLACKS BY 1970 MINE WAS AT CAPACITY OF 1,000,000 MT ORE/YR.
