Geographic coordinates

Geographic coordinates: -159.09269, 59.46931 (WGS84)
Relative position Sunshine Valley is at the north end of Lake Aleknagik. This placer occurrence is very approximately located, perhaps within a few miles, inasmuch as placer gold is only reported to be from streams that drain the southwest side of Sunshine Valley. For this record, the map site is at the mouth of an unnamed creek, where it enters Sunshine Valley, in the E1/2 of section 23, T 8 S, R 58 W, of the Seward Meridian. This occurrence was included by Hoare and Cobb (1977) under the name 'Sunshine Valley'.

Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Mertie (1938, p. 88) reported a general area of lode mineralization and its relation to granitic stocks on the ridge southwest of Sunshine Valley (GO001), and noted that some placer gold had been found in the streams that drain eastward into Sunshine Valley from this ridge. This occurrence is arbitrarily located on the drainage that heads against the area of lode mineralization.
  • Age = Holocene.
