Relative position Baggage prospect is located within a large block of claims that cover about 8 square miles; it is about one mile west of the Canadian border, in the NW 1/4 section 26, T. 23 N., R. 22 E., of the Copper River Meridian. Latitude and longitude given above correspond to the approximate center of the claims. McElfish Creek runs through the middle of the area. The location is accurate to within 1/2 mile.

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Baggage prospect was staked in the 1970's by Cities Services Mineral Corporation, and was considered a possible porphyry-Cu prospect (David Hedderly-Smith, oral communication, 1998). The regional geology of the area is mapped as Paleozoic-Precambrian biotite gneiss and amphibolite- grade schist (Foster, 1970). The prospect lies within the eastern Yukon-Tanana Y1 subterrane (Foster and Keith, 1994).
  • Age = Likely to be one of three ages of porphyry mineralization -- 90 to 100 Ma, 70 Ma, or 55 Ma -- based on dates from other porphyry prospects in the Yukon-Tanana terrane.
