Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = A single claim located for iron was reported in 1927 for Maximoff and G. Victor (Heiner and Porter, 1972). There are no other data on the occurrence. It is inferred to be an iron oxide deposit similar to the Cub Bear prospect (NM133) which is apparently about a half mile east-northeast of this occurrence.
  • Age = Probably post mid-Cretaceous, the age of bedrock metamorphism in the area.

Mining district

District name Nome

Comments on the workings information

  • Workings / Exploration = One patented claim in 1927 was reported for this location (Heiner and Porter, 1972). Activity at the claim was reported until 1965 (Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys, 1982). Surface prospecting pits are probably present.
