| Deposit | THIS IS GEOLOGY OF MENOMINEE IRON DISTRICT, EXCLUSIVE OF FELCH TROUGH AND IRON RIVER - CRYSTAL FALLS AREA: ARCHEAN CRYSTALLINE ROCKS OVERLAIN BY PALEOPROTEROZOIC SEDIMENTARY ROCKS. DURING PALEOPROTEROZOIC TIME, ARCHEAN ROCKS BLOCK FAULTED AND DIFFERENTIALLY RAISED; LOWERED; FORMING TROUGHS. PALEOPROTEROZOIC ROCKS AS SEDIMENTS SLUMPED INTO THE TROUGHS. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME ENTIRE AREA WAS REGIONALLY THERMAL METAMORPHOSED. THIS AREA OF THE MENOMINEE DISTRICT IS IN THE CHLORITE AND BIOTITE ISOGRADS. ALTHOUGH BOTH THE VULCAN IRON FM; AND THE RIVERTON IRON FM. ARE PALEOPROTEROZOIC IN AGE, THE VULCAN IRON FM. IS THE OLDER. THE VULCAN IRON FM. IS PART OF THE MENOMINEE GROUP. |
