| Deposit | The ore deposit at the Eagle-Shawmut Mine consists mainly of large, low-grade bodies of mineralized rock (pyrite-bearing ankerite-quartz rock and mariposite rock) with numerous pyrite-bearing quartz stringers. Massive quartz veins typical of the Mother Lode, along which the deposit formed, are present also, but these are relatively barren. Smaller quartz veins, probably associated with later episodes of mineralization, carried native gold in sufficient quantities to justify mining. Auriferous sulfides, chiefly pyrite, constitute about 3-7% of the ore. At depth, the ore was composed principally of ankerite-sulfide rock. |
