Comments on development

  • THE GLENCOE MINE WAS LOCATED IN 1873 BY COOK, MCCUNE, CUPIT AND BRAUN. THE PROPERTY WAS LATER SOLD TO THE GLENCOE MINING CO. WHO MADE SEVERAL SHIPMENTS. THE MINE WAS IDLE BY 1893 PARTLY DUE TO ZINCKY ORE AND INSUFFICIENT MILL WATER. THE MINE EQUIPMENT WAS REMOVED FROM THE PROPERTY IN 1895. WORK WAS BEGUN AGAIN IN 1904 BUT STOPPED WITH THE DEATH OF THE LEASING PARTY. THE ADIRONDACK MINING CO. REOPENED THE PROPERTY IN 1908. INTERMITTENT SHIPMENTS WERE MADE UNTIL 1932 WHEN THE NEW PARK MINING CO. ACQUIRED THE PROPERTY, DEVELOPING THE MAYFLOWER MINE. THE MAYFLOWER WAS CLOSED IN 1972 DUE TO DEPRESSED METALS PRICES AND INCREASING MINING COSTS DUE TO INCREASING TEMPERATURE AND AMOUNT OF WATER INFLUX. ALL EQUIPMENT WAS REMOVED AND PUMPING STOPPED.
